Two people were found dead after a shooting in Lacey, and court documents have revealed what led up to the killing and high-speed police pursuit on Thursday night.

LACEY, Wash. - Two people were found dead after a shooting in Lacey, and court docs have revealed what led up to the killing and high-speed police pursuit on Thursday night.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 21-year-old John Maupin is an active-duty soldier at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), sharing a home with his wife, 24-year-old Julia Maupin, her boyfriend who was also a JBLM soldier, her mother and her mother's partner. The house is located near 57th Way SE and Mountain Greens Ln. SE.

Court docs say the situation at the home was tumultuous — they did not elaborate on the nature of the relationships, but say that John and Julia often fought, and that John threatened suicide several times.

On Thursday, Julia's mother told police she overheard John and Julia fighting again, when some time later she heard gunshots.

According to court docs, John shot Julia and her boyfriend in the head, then walked out of the house. Julia's mother's partner approached John, and he pointed a gun at him and said, "Get the f--k away from me," court docs say.

John got into his car and sped off, and Julia's mother called 911.

Julia's mother told police she saw blood coming from Julia's mouth and that she had no pulse. Julia was 7–8 months pregnant at the time, and the baby did not survive. Julia's mother said she could tell by the gunshot wound to the boyfriend's head that he was dead.

An Olympia Police officer spotted John's car, and a high-speed pursuit was initiated, with John driving over 110 mph, according to court docs. Several officers joined the pursuit, and John drove into the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, ditched his car and ran, court docs say.

Officers caught up with John and arrested him. While in custody, police reported that John said he had an alter ego named "New John," who took over and he "couldn't remember anything."

Maupin has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, second-degree domestic violence assault and eluding police.
